A blogger's Goody bag from The Ordinary

You might have had a little read of my post about the recent Really Ree contributors event I went to in the Deciem store in Spitalfields, London and as well as having a fab evening with all involved, we were lucky enough to be gifted a goody bag packed full of The Ordinary products (and a couple of bits I treated myself to). I've cast all my other beauty staples aside to test out as many of these products as I can - which, trust me, is no hardship at all.

So here's what I got in the goody bag. (Items marked with a * were very generously gifted by Deciem). And if you want to read my review on The Colours Foundations, my review is here.
Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% (£5.50)*
This gentle acid is delivered in a cream formula so causes no irritation at all. This is a "multi-functioning brightening formula" which as well as helping to brighten, also improves skin texture and reduce the appearance of spots. Use this morning and night, after cleansing, and before moisturiser or oils.
I haven't yet noticed a "wow" difference with this but it's so easy to use, I'm happy to continue and look out for longer term use results.

Advanced Retinoid 2% (£8.00)*
Retinoid has been raved about as The anti-ageing hero ingredient and an absolute must have in anyone 30 plus skincare routine. Some retinoid treatments are pretty harsh and can result in weeks and weeks of peeling to the skin, even though results are very good, this can put off (me!) a lot of people (I'm all about the quick fix). This solution has 2% retinoid, so it's a decent percentage and you will see results, but it will not cause you any nasty peeling.
I LOVE this. It's a cream coloured miky solution and you apply a few drops to your face at night, before oils and/or creams. I got a "wow" with this and noticed a next morning difference - my skin was clearer, brighter and fresher and, dare I say it, more youthful looking.
And this coupled with...

100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil (£9.00)*
is an absolute dream combination! At night, I cleanse, use the Retinoid, then pat on this Rose Hip Seed oil, and when my skin needs an extra boost of hydration, finish with moisturiser. Facial oils are great, this one is brilliant.
Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution (£6.80)*
I use a glycolic acid every night and they are now very much part of my normal routine. As I'm still getting through my current one, I haven't opened this one yet. But I can't wait as at 7%, this is more than the much more expensive Pixi Glow Tonic.
Glycolic Acid is a liquid exfoliator, so actually kinder to your skin than a coarse scrub. The "glow" associated with using glycolic is because the acid gently dissolves dead skin cells, revealing fresh skin.
High-Adherence Silicone Primer (£3.90)*
This non greasy cream can be used as a hydrator and primer and is great for those of us with oily/combination skin. I've used this primer before and am impressed with it, particularly at £3.90!
But just like my life long quest for comfortable jeans and good fitting black work trousers, my search for a non drying but completely mattifying primer made me buy..

Hylamide Matte 12 (£23.00)
Promising to give up to 12 hours of visible oil blocking and pore vanishing, I just had to try this. Disclaimer-for the first 2 weeks of using this, I wasn't using it correctly. I was applying it as you would a normal primer - before foundation. No. With this you apply your foundation, and then pat this gently over your oily areas, and then apply powder if you use it.
I have to say though, for me, this does not offer me anymore mattifyability (new word there) than the High-Adherence. My face is visible shiny by late morning. You can re-apply the Matte 12 throughout the day by patting on, so I'll be trying that instead of my usual lunchtime blotting papers.

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (£5.90)*
I haven't tried this yet as I'm just using up another hyaluronic acid but I can recommend you using this acid in your routine. It's your hydrating, plumping, anti-ageing, wrinkle reducing go to!
AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution (£6.30)
Don't be put off by the use of "peeling" in the name. This is the single best, most effective, fun to use, immediate results mask I have ever used.
Now, I have tough non-sensitive skin, so I can take this and I apply a few drops of the blood coloured liquid to my face and leave on for the full 10 minutes and I use this twice a week (I wish I could use it more often but it's not recommended and I don't want to make people feel uncomfortable about how amazing my skin would look!).
After 10 minutes I wash the solution off with a wet flannel and boom - years younger looking skin. This gives a clarity to my skin I haven't seen in long time. This is the best £6.30 I have ever spent and I will be stocking up.

You can find all these goodies at Deciem.com

  1. Ooo, what a great goody bag! You got so many goodies. I've only tried a few products from them, which I loved! I definitely want to try more from the brand though - including the Peeling Solution!
