My first try with Kiehl's skincare

Kiehl's Skincare
Kiehl's is one of those brands that we've all heard of and it's reputation for high quality, results driven products are well known but without actually bombarding us with advertising or marketing. And when a brand gets to that position, you know it must be good.

I've never before tried anything from Kiehl's, even though I always make a bee line for its stand at the airport! I think the price has put me off a little in the past, because this is a premium brand and I wanted to be sure that it actually worked before flashing the cash.

One of the great things about being a blogger is sometimes I am lucky enough to be contacted by brands who would like me to try some of their products and just before Christmas I had such a contact from Kiehl's. I was invited down to their counter at Bristol's Cribbs Causeway (in John Lewis) for a skincare consultation and then was able to pick three products to try*, which had been recommended during the consultation.

The lady at the Kiehl's counter was lovely and helpful and what I really liked was she didn't try and do the hard sell on me. I am fairly aware of my skin condition and concerns and so being told that I have combination skin, with oily t-zone and dry cheeks was no surprise but it was still good to have this confirmed.

So the three products I was recommended for my combination and ageing skin were:

  • Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque (£23.50)
  • Precision Lifting & Pore-Tightening Concentrate (£49.50)
  • Rosa Artica Eye (£37.00)

I think this is great value for this 125ml pot as it's going to last forever, there's so much product. This white clay mask is great for really clearing out pores and giving your skin a thorough detox. Like most clay masks, it dries after applying and you leave it on for 10 minutes and then gently remove with a wet flannel.
I tend to use this on my T-zone only, as that's where I have the most congestion and large pores. I've been using this once a week for the last 2 months and it's helped my skin to stay to spot free.

The label on the bottle of this serum says "clincally tested to visibly lift the skin and help re-define the appearance of facial contours while noticeably tightening the appearance of of enlarged pores". And I thought to myself that this seems a very bold, confident claim to make (but again in very understated, cool way).
I have, over the past few years, noticed visible sagging along my jaw line and slackening of the skin around my mouth. In a nutshell everything is going south! But that is age, and gravity and nothing can help that, well nothing non-surgical. Or so I thought. I really wish I had taken a before photo, but I just didn't think this little plastic bottle of serum was going to do anything more miraculous than give me glowing skin. But it has.
After two months of twice daily use, I can actually see that the sagging to my jaw line has not gotten any worse and dare I say it, even appears tightened! And the lines from the bottom of my nose to my mouth do not look as prominent. I almost don't believe it but the mirror doesn't lie (unfortunately).

I've always thought using an eye cream was a bit of an extra faff on top of everything else I put on my skin. But that was until I really started to notice, not only a darker under eye area but also crepey dry skin and basically just looking tired around the eyes.

You only need the tiniest bit of this Rose Arctica Eye balm to gently pat under the eye and above the brow bone. Again I've been using this twice a day for two months and yes, I've noticed a difference. The skin under my eyes is no longer as crepey and appears smoother and hydrated, and I think because this area is now smoother, there is less shadow and so they don't look as dark.

You know me, I don't rave about a product unless it really, really deserves it and for me the Precision Lifting & Pore-tightening concentrate and the Rose Artica Eye have made a noticable difference to my skin. And although I was kindly sent these products, I will for sure be splashing my own cash on more Kiehl's products because I'm that impressed.
