Getting Out Of A Make Up Rut

I decided that in January I would do a rotation of my currently used make up - put away some of the products I've been using for a while and try out items I haven't given a chance yet. I was going to call this post "Crop Rotation for Make Up" and make a jokey reference to the Glastonbury festival having to rest its fields every four years to rejuvenate the land... But then as is often the way, after having a change around of my make up, I was then tempted to further freshen it up (and add to items I haven't yet used!) by buying some new items. Which scuppered my post title!

So here are the items I was using in 2016:
  • Foundation - Charlotte Tilbury Magic
  • Primer - New Look mattifying
  • Mascara - Maybelline Lash Sensational
  • Blusher - from the Stila Perfect Me Perfect Hue Face palette
  • Liquid Lipstick - NYX Lingerie
And here are my new items:

Foundation - Make Up Forever HD (£29.00)
This has been on my wish list for ages and ages but the problem was finding somewhere that sold Make Up Forever. Debenhams in Westfield, London. So at least now I have my shade so I can order online in future.
This foundation is lighter than I thought it would be but that has meant I've been going for less of a full coverage. So far I do like this, it blends well, feels nice on but I have to admit to not giving it a really good look at in the daylight. I have been using it since I got it though and not my Charlotte Tilbury Magic, so that in itself is a very good sign.

Primer - The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone (£3.90)
As well as black work trousers and good jeans, I am on a constant search for a primer to keep my t-zone oil free all day. I am so excited by The Ordinary concept and have been trying a few of their serums, so at £3.90 I had to try this primer.
It's ok. I am still getting midday nose shine but as yet I have found nothing to combat that so that doesn't make this bad. My foundation is sitting nicely and anyway at £3.90 this is great value.

Mascara - Tarte Tarteist (£19.80)
This came in a beauty box last year and I decided to get out of my Lash Sensational comfort zone and try this. I love it. It's super lengthening, not at all clumpy and I get no fall down. I really like the brush as well, which grabs all the lashes.

Blusher - NYX Sweet Cheeks palette (£17.00)
I still keep thinking about the Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic blusher and instead of buying it, I have now spent the equivalent amount of money in buying other blushers! However, this palette is really pretty to look at and is giving me multiple shades for different blush vibes. All the powders are very pigmented, so a light hand on these and I've been using two together. Because why not.

Liquid Lipstick - New Look Super Matte (£5.99)
In the shade Nude. This rich deep nude colour glides on easily and dries down to a comfortable and opaque matte. The staying power is as good as the NYX Lip Lingerie. Like. A lot.

So these new products have spurred me on to be more adventurous, try more new things. Starting with falafel!

    1. I agree. I use different eye shadows every day but it's easy to stick with things you like.
