December 2016 Favourites

december favourites
This is a December and Christmas favourites in one, because during this month how can you not love all the festive food treats, great TV and that it's perfectly acceptable to dress in clothing which is emblazoned in shouting about Christmas.

I love this time of the year more than any other. Everyone is in good spirits and people bond over the universal angst of "are you all ready then". And lets face it after this year, and everything that's going on in the world, we should allow ourselves to enjoy this time with our family and friends.

So here's what I've been enjoying:

Make Up - MUA Heaven & Earth eyeshadow palette - £4.00 from Superdrug
I received this palette in a beauty box but I already have quite a few MUA palettes and know how pigmented and easy to use they are. This selection is perfect for this time of the year. At first glance it looks like classic nudes and neutrals shades. And yes they are but they are also packed full of subtle glitter which adds a lovely sparkle to eyes. If you want to really ramp up the glitter, apply with a damp brush.

Skincare - Alpha H Liquid Gold - £33.50 from Beauty Bay
Now word of warning - if you've got sensitive skin, this may be too strong for you. I on the other hand have the skin of an Ox, hence why I'm able to be constantly testing new things out! This is a Glycolic Acid overnight treatment. After cleansing, you wipe this over your face and that's it. Don't put anything on top, just go to bed.
In the morning your skin will feel crazy smooth and bump free and look clearer. How is this? Because Glycolic Acid dissolves the gubbins - which is all the dead skin cells which have built up and are blocking up your pores!
I only use this once a week and I don't get any irritation but like I say.. Ox. If you haven't got sensitive skin, give this a try or actually any Glycolic Acid treatment.

Food - Lebkuchen from most supermarkets
Gingerbread, apricot jam centre, covered in chocolate. Need I say anymore? Sadly these only seem to be available at Christmas time but they sum up the season for me. You can also get gingerbread stars and hearts covered in a white frosting, they're lovely as well.
Misc - Christmas films and TV
I think this is the best time of year for great dramas on the TV and it's totally justifiable to spend a whole day on the sofa for a film marathon.
My favourite Christmas film is Love Actually (the bit where Emma Thompson smooths down the bed cover after realising the necklace her husband bought was not for her, gets me every single time. There is so much in that little movement..) but during the holidays I love to watch some of the following classics, and they're not your typical "Christmas movie":

  • The whole Harry Potter saga - never tire of these films
  • Gone with the wind - you need a whole day for this and the colour version but this is an absolutely stunning film. And the costumes.. beautiful. If you haven't seen it, you must.
  • Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special - there are so many elements in this that everyone experiences with their own families. Hilarious.
  • It's a wonderful life - I've got the colour version but I've also watched the black and white and this captures not only the old style hollywood glamour but also touches on the despair some people can feel at this time of the year. Heart warming and a tear jerker.
  • About a boy - I adore Hugh Grant. To me he is dreamy. And I love his hair in this film.
  • National Lampoon's Christmas vacation - I don't really like funny films (says a lot about me I suppose) but this one really tickles me.
Fashion - Oh Deer Christmas pyjamas £16.00 from Asda
I featured these in my Top 10 Christmas Pyjamas Picks post and I love them. They're fleecy and so cosy. I wouldn't wear them to bed as I'd overheat, well definitely at the moment with this stupid and un-christmasy mild weather. These are my current go to lounge wear faves.

So that just leaves me to wish you all a really lovely, fun and restful Christmas and a very happy new year. Eat what you want, stay in your PJs all day and enjoy!
