Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows - worth the splurge?

 Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows
Brows are huge at the moment. Like literally. The quest is now for fuller, bushier brows but brows that are groomed and controlled. I don't use brow pencils or pomade - I just don't have the time in the morning for such precision, nor do I have a steady enough hand. I can't even draw a straight line, with a ruler!

What I do use though is a brow mascara - a coloured gel that you brush through brows to darken and fill in sparse areas. The gel is great for keeping unruly brows in place all day.

I have tried nearly all the drugstore variations and my one of choice is Rimmel Brow this Way in the shade dark brown, £3.99. And for me this brow gel is great, easy and quick to apply, hardly any mess as the brush is quite small and the gel keeps brows in place. But when I saw that Charlotte Tilbury was releasing the Legendary Brow, I knew I had to give it a go.

The Legendary Brow comes in four shades:

  • Clear
  • Brigitte - for blondes, light brown or red heads
  • Linda - for dark blondes to medium brown heads
  • Cara - for dark brown to black heads (the shade I ordered)
The first thing that struck me about the Legendary Brow is the packaging but then all Charlotte Tilbury packaging is very glamorous and indulgent. The next thing that I was excited about was the size of the brush, it is tiny. And having had to previously throw away some other brow gels because their brushes were far too large for trying to use on brows, this tiny brush seemed to be the perfect size.

There are good video tutorials on how to apply this brow gel on the Charlotte Tilbury website but essentially you use the brush in two ways - by brushing through your hairs, upwards and then the tip of the brush can be used to shade in sparse areas.

The brow gel is £18.50, so seeing as this is more than 4.5 times more expensive than my usual brow gel, is it worth the splurge?

For me, no it isn't and here are my reasons why:
  • the packaging is deceiving in that it opens a third of the way but the actual product is in this smaller section. The brush wand takes up almost two thirds of the tube.
  • the brush, whilst I like that it is tiny, I don't feel it picks up enough product to apply. I have to keep going back for more product and even when I tried to swatch the product on the back of my hand, there was hardly anthing there.
  • because the brush is so small, and therefore doesn't pick up much product, my brows don't quite stay in place because I haven't been able to get enough of the gel through the hairs
I will continue using this, as I have found with everything I've bought from Charlotte Tilbury that initially I am wowed by how it looks, I use it and can't see what all the fuss is about, and then over time I start to love it and can't be without it! This is certainly the case with the Colour Chameleon eye pencil and the Magic Foundation, both of which I adore.

So this certainly isn't a disappointing product but as it is a "worth the splurge" post, I have to say for me it isn't and I wouldn't re-purchase.

  1. Thanks for your honest review! There is so much hype around this brand yet it often seems like the products don't live up to it.

  2. Great review! I have always wanted to try something from this brand as everyone keeps saying how wonderful it is, but it's also very pricey. I will stay clear from getting this product then as it doesn't sound great!

  5. Overused phrase, but this is honestly a HG product for me! One of the most amazing cosmetic products I have ever had the pleasure of using. I am light-medium beige, with white Nordic eyebrows that you can't see--at all. I don't wear any eye makeup, so if penciling in brow color I must have a very light hand, and they still often look too penciled in, or too smeary--it's hard to get right and it takes time and attention--and even the best of pencils never last all day.

Then along came Legendary Brows! You simply swipe the super small brush over your brow hairs, and you can be quick and not pay the closest of attention, and the hairs just magically take up the gel. The gel is not attracted to skin much at all (which is why the application is so easy) though you can use the slight globs of the gel at the end of the brush like a direct paintbrush for thinner parts of your brows, particularly at the tail, and it will very lightly shade baby hairs and skin. For my very light brows I use "Bridgette", the lightest shade, and it adds just enough color to reverse my invisible brows, leaving them lightly shaded and noticable, but it does not add so much contrast that they are too dark and artificial looking for my pale complexion (unlike the majority of almost all other brow and eye products).

Applying this product is almost automatic and foolproof for me, and takes maybe 2 minutes total. This product literally almost applies itself! And it keeps the brow hairs locked in place, and the color endures, for 12+ hours. Holy grail!
