My 1st ever Blogger event - 30-40+ Blogger Meet.

30-40+ blogger meet
I love my blog. I love blogging. I think about it all the time, sometimes I find myself starting to write a blog post in my head. Blogging is by far the best hobby I have ever had.

When I started blogging, I initially thought it was a very solitary hobby. I shut myself away in my blogging room (the spare room!) and even if I'm only writing one post, several hours can fly by. And that's actually fine by me, I have always been self sufficient, I don't need to be entertained by other people and I enjoy my own company. But blogging is actually a real social thing. In the past few months, I've found myself joining in on twitter chats, liking and commenting on other blogs, tweets and instagrams and every interaction I have had has been really positive and everyone is really friendly, and kind.

I've been following Catherine from Not Dressed as Lamb since I started blogging. When I came across Catherine's blog, I realised that not only could I set up a blog at my age but there would (hopefully) be an audience that would want to read what I had to say. So when I saw that Catherine was organising a 30-40+ blogger meet, I decided straight away that I would go. And so last Monday, I jumped on the train to London, and nervously but excitedly walked into The Imperial in Chelsea to be met by the lovely and welcoming Catherine.

When everyone had arrived, there was just over 40 bloggers there, all female and all 30+. I did feel a little star struck as there were bloggers there that I know have a big following and I had been reading their posts for a while now. I didn't get to chat to as many people as I would have liked but that was only because the day went so quickly.

The 30-40+ blogger meet was sponsored by the new fashion brand Hope and they had a couple of rails of their pieces for people to look through and try on. After the lovely sit down 1 course lunch, Catherine gave a really interesting talk about her experiences and also some useful tips. Nayna from Hope then gave a talk about how the Hope brand was set up and its concept.

Hope very generously gave each of us a merino and cashmere pink poncho, and this was in addition to the frankly amazing goody bag. The cost of the ticket (£45.00) which was for the whole day, lunch, canapés and drinks on arrival, and the goody bag, I think was great value. In the goody bag there was:

  • a notebook
  • pen
  • Blogosphere magazine
  • Laura Geller eyeliner
  • Verso day cream sample
  • Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer
  • I love lemon sorbet body spritzer
  • Lizzy Loves wrist strap
  • small box of macaroons
generous hey?

For me what I got out of the day, apart from the goody bag, was the opportunity to speak with other bloggers, the same age as me and quite a few who have been blogging for the same time as I have. It was great to pick up on the shared enthusiasm we all have for this blogging lark in a relaxed, informal and fun environment.
I also felt quite proud of myself that I went. We all have to, or want to, do things sometimes that scare the living daylights out of us, but as a proper, fully fledged grown up, you just have to do it. Face the fear and all that. Oh and be really organised with phone screen shots of the tube routes you need to take!

  4. Julie thank you so much for such a wonderful post about the event!! What kind words, I really appreciate you writing the post and I am SO glad you decided to come - it was so nice to meet you. I think it's fair to say everyone had a great time, I must be crazy to want to do it again but I don't think anyone will let me get away with NOT doing another...!! ;))

I was also blown away by generous Hope were - what a fantastic sponsor they were, and Nayna such an inspirational speaker. I'm also so pleased about the feedback about the goody bags, it was my intention to get some great stuff in there so you've made my day!!

    Thanks again, keep in touch!
