I hit pan! (Empties worth a re-purchase?) #1

I enjoy watching "Empties" videos on You Tube. This is where people show you what they've used up and review whether they liked them or not. So I thought I would start a series called "I hit pan", where I show you unimpressive photos of the bottom of tubes and bottles.  Cool hey?! But you need to know if I have hit pan (the bottom of the product), I like it! I get easily swayed and distracted by new products so I don't often use things up, so when I do I really liked them, and they kept my attention for a long time. Oh and I'll tell you whether I'll be repurchasing them or not.

Bourjois Healthy Balance powder - £8.99 (available here at Superdrug)
This ultra fine matt powder is lovely. It gives a natural mattifying finish over makeup, without looking cakey or powdery. The compact is a good handbag size with a mirror that is the size of the lid, so very handy. I do wish this had a powder puff so I could apply it out and about and without having to take a brush out as well, but that is literally the only minus point for me. I'm using shade 55, there are 4 shades in total.
Re-purchase - yes.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer - £23.50 (from Boots).
I posted about the Benefit Hoola in my Holiday Prep #3, for the face (click here), so I won't bore you any more with my love for this suits all skin tones bronzer. As you can see I have hit pan but I've had this for 14 months now, so cost per wear is really good. I can't wait to go heavier with this bronzer after my upcoming holiday and to (hopefully) keep my sun glow going for as long as I can stretch it out.
Re-purchase - for sure.

Mac Cream Colour Base - £16.00
This little pot of wonder is a multi use cream product which can be used on eyes, lips (not sure about that), and face. I use it either as a base eye shadow and mostly as a cheek highlighter. It gives a really believable natural highlighted glow. Being a cream it is really easy to apply, so this is a great one to start with on your highlighting journey.
I have the shade Hush which is a subtle peachy champagne colour.
Re-purchase - yes, and I'd like to try different shades. (It's just a real shame that Mac insist on employing staff who go out of their way to avoid serving me at all costs..!).

John Frieda Spun Gold Balm
This is a hair wax which I've been using and re-purchasing for years. It first came out as another part of the John Frieda range, the purple and silver packaging, name escapes me. But then they just stopped making it. Distraught.
And then I discovered a better version of the hair wax in their Sheer Blonde range. Even though I'm not a blonde, it doesn't matter as it works so well at smoothing and taming frizz and flyaway hair. It defines waves and curls and when scrunched in, gives messy beachy waves which hold all day.
And then it happened again. They stopped making it. I was lucky to stock pile some which I found on Amazon, but even Amazon are now saying "currently unavailable". And you can see how much I have left..  owwww panic stations. Please let me know if you know of a good hair wax, which is not too heavy or sticky. Please send a message. Quickly.

  1. I love a good empties post/video - they are some of my faves! I had heard other good things about the Bourjois powder but have never actually used it. And I'm impressed you hit pan on the Hoola. I have a Coralista blush from Benefit still going strong after 5-6 years! They are definitely worth the price. I've not tried Hoola at all, which is hard for me to believe considering my past makeup shopping addictions, but I will consider it for my next bronzer. I am working through quite a few products too, as I also get bored with one and move on quickly to the next.

I hope you find a few more of those wax pots, or a good alternative. Why do they always discontinue the good stuff?

    1. Thanks for your comment Melissa. I think I'm going to try a benefit blusher so I'll look at coralista.

  3. I love empties posts, my youngest adores Hoola, I haven't tried it and don't really use bronzer but feel I should do, it might make me look a little more alive, I really want to try the MAC cream colour base, there is a new collection is the Chris Chang? something like that, there are a couple of gorgeous shades in the collection I have my eye on, that would make beautiful cream blushes, I haven't ever tried a Bourjois powder either so must take a look at those next time I'm placing an order, great post xx
