Mini NYX haul - I panic bought!

NYX haul
Great excitement, for me at least, when I got a tip off that a NYX stand had arrived at a Boots in my home town of Swindon. I later found out that there was a second NYX counter in the main town centre Boots. So two NYX stands arrived in one day, like a virus! I have since read online that NYX are in the middle of a mass role out to Boots all over the UK, so if you haven't got one yet, fingers crossed you will soon!

So last saturday, after doing the un-glamorous job of buying wall tiles, I hot footed it down to Boots and NYX to buy some pretty things. I was in luck, word had not yet got out and I found the stand fully stocked, clean and like an oasis in the desert. I was over-awed, over excited and I didn't know where to start. I had recently bought online the NYX Lip Lingerie, which is a matt liquid lipstick (to read this post click here) and a lovely reader had commented that she had the Liquid Suede in Sandstorm, so I picked this up as a starting point.

NYX Liquid Suede sandstorm
This is a lovely brown, goes with anything shade and I actually prefer the liquid suede to the lip lingerie, it doesn't feel as drying on the lips and it feels comfortable enough to wear on its own. Although, just like the lip lingerie this stuff got all over my teeth, so I apply, blot with tissue a few times, re-apply, tissue, finger in mouth, pull out, keep checking teeth in any and all reflective surfaces...
I did pick up, and wish I had got, one of their butter lipsticks and I think these would be more up my street, less high maintenance.

I use a eyebrow gel - Rimmel Brow this way and I really like this but decided to pick up a clear brow gel for days when I want to tame them brows but without any colour.

This is just ok. The gel is fine, nothing special. It doesn't leave white residue on brows as it dries, so that's good but why on earth is the brush so big? It's the size of a normal mascara brush but this is for your brows, you don't need it that big. It's no major issue because this is a clear gel so the fact that you can't get precise application because of the size of the brush is not the end of the world but if they have a coloured brow gel, and the brush was this size, I would steer clear.

The one product I had heard of before was the Pore Filler. Now I have large pores, really large. I think I always have but when you get older, as well as many other parts of your body (!), your pores do appear larger and more noticeable. Deep sigh.

NYX Pore Filler says it is a "magical agent that minimizes the look of pores to create a smooth, porcelain doll-like finish to your face".

Ok, not only was this not a "magical agent" but I found the packaging really irritating. This comes in a thin tube, and although you can tell you don't get much product in the tube, I got even less because on first using and squeezing the tube to get some out, nothing came out, I squeezed more and then splat! a load came out and went on the floor. Not happy.

The consistency of this filler feels silicone based but when you rub it in, it literally dissolves to nothing.
I did notice when first applying that it did go on smoothly and appeared to blur my pores but this did not last. In fact around my nose (the worst area for my large open pores) the product just sat in them. So it actually made them look more obvious.
For me, I really did not get on with this product. I think my pores are un-fillable!

So not a totally successful haul but I'm not put off because NYX is such a current, very affordable and lusted after brand. If you have any suggestions for things I should try from NYX, please let me know.

xx

  1. It's good to read this post before actually buying these! I saw a lip lingerie shade calked Embellishment on Pinterest and I quite liked that. The pore filler too is quite famous!
    Good honest review!
