Get your brush game in order (part 2) - Real Techniques brush cleansing palette

For a long time, I'm talking years, I had 2 brushes - an eyeshadow and a powder brush. I can't remember ever cleaning them. Gross I know. But then I had my re-awakening and fell in love with make up. I now have 21 brushes of varying uses and I actually enjoy cleaning them. I know I should clean them once a week but I probably do it once a fortnight - hey that's better than never! I was using a brush cleanser spray from Superdrug and it was doing the job but it's more of a spot cleaner, so great for cleaning green eyeshadow off a brush before you use it for a taupe look, but not as a real deep cleanser. When I went on a make up course (posted about it here), the tutor said that you don't need to buy a specific make up brush cleaner and baby shampoo or even better, an antibacterial hand wash is great to use. Although you do get 2 sachets of the Real Techniques brush cleansing gel with this palette.

The only thing with hand washing quite a few brushes is that your hand gets very wrinkly and you have to keep stopping when the water gets too hot and I still never felt that my brushes were as clean as they could be.

I'd seen that Real Techniques had brought out a brush cleansing palette and for a while thought it might just be too gimmicky, you know one of those things they say you need but you don't really. But this silicone palette is what you need. It fits over your hand and there are 3 different size bobbles/textures, which you use to brush/massage your brush head in to (after putting whatever brush cleanser you are using on to the brush head). Add a little warm water on to the palette and brush away. Then rinse out the bristle heads thoroughly so there is no soap residue left and squeeze out. Make sure you rest your brushes upside down so any remaining water dries away from the glue that holds the bristles together.

My brushes have never looked so clean, actually they look brand new again. They feel silky soft and smell fresh. This palette is £12.99 from Superdrug or Boots.
