L'Oreal Infallible Matte Max Lip Pen

Loreal infallible matte max lip pen

I love most L'Oreal products I've tried, I raved about their new hair clay masque here and I love a nude lip colour and wanted to venture out and try a real matt matte.  A "dead flat matt" as Dulux paints would say.  So I thought the new L'Oreal Infallible Matte Max Lip pen was going to be the answer to my dreams.  It's not.

This pen in principal is a great idea, it has a perfectly shaped sponge applicator which is great for applying on the go and quickly.  The lip colour is a powder consistency which is contained in the lid, so every time you unscrew the lid to use, the powder transfers on to the sponge.  That's the theory, I think.

I honestly thought when I got this home that I had (again!) picked up a used product, because this lip pen does not come in sealed packaging.  When I looked inside the lid it really looks like most of the powder had already been used up.  It's so hard to tell.  But even if it hasn't, the sponge applicator is only going to go so far in to the lid, so there's a limit on the amount of product you're going to get.  At £6.99 I don't think this is good value for money.

I just don't get this lip pen.  It says once applied, it gives a velvety feel which lasts for up to 8 hours. Really?  The powder does apply smoothly but the pigmentation is not great. Granted, I have only tried the nudest shade, 001 Silencio, but it leaves no colour on my lips at all.  And you need to ensure your lips are thoroughly moisturised before use.  I even tried this as a base and then applied a darker nude lip gloss on top but then the base colour was completely lost.

The advertising on the matte lip pen says you can create an ombre lip effect. Why would you even want an ombre lip?

So I'm afraid for me this is a no.  I would have been tempted to try again in another brighter colour but the whole product in the lid/hard to get to has ruined it for me.  And at nearly £7.00, why is there no seal on the product?

If you've tried the Infallible Lip Pen and think I'm using it all wrong, please let me know.

After this slightly negative post, my next post will be my current favourite nudes (lipsticks).

xx
