Tidy Make up, Tidy mind. part 2. The Specification.

Part 1 of this Tidy make up, Tidy mind post (can be found here) was about make-up storage.

Part 2 is about the specifics of your make-up collection.  Now a warning, and apology, as I am most certainly teaching your grandmother to suck eggs as, if you are reading this, you will already be interested in and love make up and won't need me to tell you what you need in your collection.

But, less than a year ago, I was a basic user of make up.  Foundation, powder, mascara. That was it.
And then I got it, the bug, passion, obsession.  I was hooked.  But still a newcomer and I would have appreciated having a list, like a person specification/job description, of what I needed as essential, and then what was not so essential - desirable.

So here you go, and forgive me if I am giving you and your extended family eggs to suck on!

Essential (needed to fulfil the job)

  • Primer - your foundation/bb cream will go on so much better and stay on for longer.
  • Foundation
  • Concealer - gives targeted extra coverage to red areas or dark under eyes.
  • Powder-translucent - sets foundation in place.  Not needed if your skin is very dry.
  • Blusher
  • Eye shadow
  • Mascara
  • Lip balm
  • Lipstick
  • Bronzer - not just to be used after holidays, adds warmth to your complexion and can be used for contouring.
Desirable (nice to have, will add something but not a requirement to fulfil the job)
  • Highlighting serum - gives a subtle glow from within
  • Highlighter powder or cream - this is an essential for me now but I don't use one every day.
  • Eyebrow gel or pencil - an essential for me but you might have well behaved brows!
  • Eye shadow primer - use if you have veiny or oily lids
  • Eyeliner - an essential for some
  • Lip Liner
  • Make up setting spray - good for nights out or all day occasions.
  • Contour powder or cream
  • Under eye concealer - you don't need a specific under eye concealer, unless that's a problem area for you and you want something more brightening for that area.
I hope you found this specification list helpful.  Let me know if there is anything I've missed out and whether it's an essential or desirable for you.

Thanks for reading.
