January 2016 Favourites

So here is my first ever monthly favourites post.  I love reading these types of posts because you get a snap shot of what other people are loving right now.  For my favourites posts I thought I would categorise my top 5 things for the month as:

1. Make up
2. Skincare
3. Food
4. Screen favourites (this can be phone apps, TV, films, box sets etc)
5. Fashion

These are the things I have been using the most, so they might not be new out things but I'll tell you where you can get them or if there are similar things available.  I hope you enjoy reading.  And thank goodness January is over!

1. Make up:
Already, first post and I'm sort of cheating!  I've got 2 make up faves this month.  The first is Maybelline The Falsies Push up Drama mascara in very black.  £5.99 from Boots and Superdrug. You may have read in my post about Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara that I love that mascara and didn't think anything could come close to how good it is.  So I was intrigued and had to try the new Maybelline mascara when it came out recently.  I've got a post on my thoughts on this coming very soon, so keep an eye out for that.  But probably the fact that I've put it in my January faves is a good clue on what I think of it.

My other favourite is the Kiko Lushious Cream-Creamy Lipstick, currently on sale at £2.00. I've got this is a mid nude brown colour (unfortunately the shade name isn't on the bullet). These lipsticks really are creamy and moisturising, their staying power is very good and when they do disappear they do so without leaving that irritating dry crusty line behind.

2. Skincare:
Again, cheat alert as I've got another 2 for this category.
The classic Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream.  If you haven't got this in your life, please I urge you to get some.  There is nothing (much) this cream cannot fix - cracked lips, dry cuticles, dry patches, emergency cheek highlighter, brow gel, heel cream... I keep this handy little lip protectant in my handbag with me and by using it, I never suffer with dry or cracked lips.  I got this pot in duty free but you can get a lipstick balm for £20.00 from boots.  I always get a gift set from the airport when going on holiday, as these are really good value.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair.  I've heard so many good things about this night oil but at £50 for a 30ml bottle, I couldn't commit.  And whilst some might say a false economy I did pay £12 for a tiny 7ml tester bottle.  But you know what I've used this every night for 4 weeks now and I reckon I've still got a week's use left in it.  This is worth the hype.  My skin appears clearer, smoother and just feels better.  I put this on after a double cleanse and before my night moisturiser.

3. Food:
Crunchy Nut Glorious Oat Granola (scrumptious caramelised hazelnuts).  This is probably one of the worst value granola out there.  £2.99 for 380g.  But oh my god it does not matter, I would happily pay twice the price and more.  I am totally addicted to this moreish, yummy, eat at anytime (and I do!) granola.  So here's how I eat mine - I put 3 generous spoonfuls in a plastic tub, plop 3 spoonfuls of Onken fat free vanilla yoghurt on top and then a good sprinkling of frozen blueberries.  I take this to work and by the time I've settled in and am ready for breakfast, the blueberries have defrosted but also kept this concoction nice and chilled.  It is divine.

4. Screen:
After a drama trying to upgrade, I finally got my hands on the iphone 6s. I was quite nonplussed as I couldn't really see what more it did to my old phone, apart from the finger print log in.  But oh my, the camera is amazing.  With 12 megapixels, it's only 4 megapixels less than my Olympus EPL-7 but the iphone's camera copes with poor light situations so much better than my Olympus.

5. Fashion:
Another sneaky 2 but 1 is really small!
I was lucky to get a new large purse for Christmas.  It's so big though that it doesn't fit in my weekend cross the body bag.  I got this card wallet from New Look, £3.99.  It's the perfect size and has 2 slots for cards and then a handy zipped section for cash.

And my last favourite is a stripy, breton style, long sleeved jumper from Primark.  I think this was £8.00, it certainly wasn't any more.  This is soft and comfortable to wear and the length goes below the waist and dips at the back, so just below your bottom!  It looks fab with jeans and is plenty warm enough for January.
